I have watched videos online about this server and im convinced. the only question that is haunting me is if you download the launcher for this server, will it effect the retail WoW launcher and your ability to play retail WoW??? thanks.

No it wont. You can just change your realmlist back to us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com

Well when you open the icecold launcher it should "change" the patch to the correct one , so the answer is yes.

Also when you want back in retail you can simply just open retail launcher and start playing. Also if that gives problems you can delete safely the cache folder from wow folder.
